We are a non-profit organization that has been doing this working with young people from around the country since 1926. We believe that young people and entire schools and communities benefit from exposure to positive role models who support young people in making good decisions, setting goals and developing skills for making positive contributions. Kieve-Wavus wants to offer its experience and resources to benefit young people in the State of Maine.

It is highly structured from rising time (7:30 am) until bedtime (9:00 pm). There are five hour-long classes, two recreational periods, three large healthy meals, three snacks each day, and an evening activity. The program is school, in a different setting.

Students participate in five classes each day. Schools chose 5 from the following 7 classes: Decisions, Relationships, Communication Skills, Adventure, Solo, Environmental Stewardship and Teambuilding. Our classes are student-centered and experiential.

The rules of attending The Leadership School at Kieve’s facility are simple. Our one rule is that: “Everyone and everything has the right to be treated with kindness and respect”.   Students are also expected to follow all of their home school rules while participating in TLS programming.

The school contracts with Kieve to run the program. Parents consent to their child’s participation by signing an application form on behalf of their child.

Kieve-Wavus tries very hard to keep the cost of Leadership School programs affordable. Towards that end, Kieve-Wavus raises money from alumni and friends. The remaining cost of each program is paid by the participants.

Since 1981, The Leadership School at Kieve has been developing leaders and strengthening communities by challenging students, teachers, and parents to take positive risks, set meaningful goals, make healthy decisions, all while being supportive team members and strong leaders.  Just over 30 years later, we serve over 8,000 students a year who come from throughout Maine and as far away as Pennsylvania for residential and outreach programs that empower young people and the adults who affect them to contribute positively to society.

The Leadership School educators have excellent emergency medical training. In the event of a medical emergency, Kieve-Wavus makes any medical decisions that must be made to assure the safety of the child. Kieve is served by the Nobleboro Fire and Rescue and Central Lincoln County Ambulance. Miles Memorial Hospital  is approx. 10 minutes away in Damariscotta. Parents are contacted in the event of a medical issue.
